2007 RESNET Building Performance Conference is Carbon Neutral
RESNET
and NativeEnergy has joined forces to offset 100% of the carbon dioxide
emissions from the facilities and transportation for hosting and
participant travel with the 2007 RESNET Building Performance Conference.
This makes this year's conference the first carbon-neutral building
performance conference ever.
NativeEnergy, an American Indian majority-owned company is one of the
leading national marketers of Green Tags. NativeEnergy, which works with
organizations to help them compensate for their contributions to global
climate change, calculated the "carbon footprint" for conducting the
2007 RESNET Conference including all attendee, staff, and presenter
travel and the energy use of the conference facility. The company then
offset the emissions from renewable clean energy Green Tags from wind
generation in the Upper Midwest.
It is only right that RESNET should show the national leadership to
counteract the greenhouse gas emissions we create in hosting the annual
national conference. The investment in the Green Tags serves to support
the development of clean renewable energy that will serve to reduce the
nation's demand for fossil fuels. It is hoped that RESNET's leadership
will spur other energy efficiency conferences to strive to make their
events carbon-neutral. RESNET strives to set an example for our industry
by this leadership.
NativeEnergy was the firm that worked with Al Gore to make the movie
"An Inconvenient Truth" the first carbon-neutral documentary ever.
Native Energy has worked with the following national firms and
organizations to assist them in reducing their carbon footprint:
- Albertsons
- Ben & Jerry
- Bill Clinton Global Initiative
- Dave Matthews Band
- Natural Resources Defense Council
- Paramont Pictures
- Rodale Press
- Timberland
- United Nations
- World Wildlife Fund
