The energy rating and building performance
industries are at a critical crossroads.
The rating
industry has made significant progress in the past few years including:
There are accredited rating providers in
all 50 states.
Ratings are the basis for ENERGY STAR
certification for homes.
New energy mortgage products have been
released that require ratings for verification of the energy savings.
The U.S. Department of Energy has made
ratings the baseline for the Building America Program.
Nineteen states have made ratings a
compliance method in their energy codes.
There
are many exciting opportunities ahead:
- All proposed tax credits for residential
energy efficiency specifically recognize energy ratings as a verification
tool.
- The U.S. Department of Energy has proposed revisions to the
International Energy Conservation Code that will make home performance
compliance, such as home energy ratings, the preferable option for
builders.
There also some big challenges ahead for the
industry:
- Penetrating the existing homes market has been difficult.
- Keeping up with the growth of the industry is a challenge.
- Maintaining quality assurance is an ongoing process.
The 2004 RESNET Conference will address the
emerging opportunities and challenges facing the home energy rating
industry. The theme of this year's conference is "Planning for
Success, Delivering Quality". Sessions at the
conference will explore the opportunities and share strategies for meeting
the growing demand for rating services while maintaining the quality of our
services.
The
RESNET Conference will highlight the tools that are now available to raters
and rating programs such as:
- Successful and profitable business models
and strategies
- Innovative marketing strategies
- Growth of the ENERGY STAR Homes program
- Energy code compliance
- Dynamic partnerships with the mortgage
industry, builders, Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department
of Energy, and state and utility sponsored residential energy efficiency
programs.
The RESNET Conference is the premier national
forum on home energy ratings, residential energy efficiency financing, and
building performance business development. Make plans now for three days of
networking, learning, sharing and enjoying beautiful San Diego.
